SEVERNS, Robert L.

Entered into rest on June 17, 2003 at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose.  Beloved father of daughter
Nancy Severns, son David Severns and daughter-in-law Sharon Severns.  Dearest brother of William
Severns and sister-in-law Jacquie Severns.  Devoted grandfather of Kyle and Kelsey Severns.  Born in
Illinois, and later an engineering graduate of University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Bob moved to
California with his wife Helen in 1958.  After a distinguished career as President of Sierra Chemical
Company, Bob retired in 1991.  A 38 year resident of Los Gatos, he spent his retirement years traveling
the world on ships large and small.  As a philanthropist, he started a charitable foundation that focuses on
education reform and improving reading skills in young children.  He was also an active participant/donor
with the Community Foundation of Silicon Valley and the Lexington Institute in Washington DC.  In 1993,
in honor of his father, he funded the William H. Severns Chair in Human Behavior in the Engineering
Department at the University of Illinois.

Memorial Services will be held on June 26, 2003 at 3:30 pm at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, 20455
Herriman Ave, Saratoga, CA.  In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations designated for education to
Sacred Heart Community Service in San Jose, CA (www.shcstheheart.org).
